Draft Programme: Evening Prayers and Hymns for Late King

Day 3 (pm)

For the next four evenings, the Palace grounds will swell with prayers and hymns for the late King.  Since the arrival of the late Monarch, village and church groups from across the Kingdom have been visiting the Royal Palace each evening.  The groups hold prayer sessions and sing hymns for the late King.

A Programme has been set that enables churches of all denominations and villages across Tongatapu to pay their respects at the Royal Palace grounds.   In the early hours before the burial on Tuesday morning, the outer islands of Tonga will be represented.  At 5am, the islands of Vava’u, Ha’apai’, ‘Eua, Niuafo’ou and Niuatoputapu will arrive at the Royal Palace together.

Every evening, large crowds assemble to pay their respects and represent their churches and villages.  The beautiful singing of the Tongan people fills the town-centre and floats out over the waterfront and across the night sea.
