Glen Turner, Oceania Development Officer for the Federation of International Football Association, began his speech paying respect to the late King Tupou IV for his perseverance with soccer in it’s infancy.

The role of Soccer in Tonga and the infrastructure employed in assisting the development of soccer and youths for the betterment of Tonga is a global vision. Ngalu Fusimalohi was praised for his efforts to bring Soccer to such a high standard after years of constant negotiations and perseverance. Respect was paid to Solomone Tuita former government architect whose last work was the technical building and facilities before death.

Christian Companeu of New Caledonia spoke of how soccer has provided for him in the world of soccer. Not only has he played for France but he also played for the top European teams such as Real Madrid. Very few from Oceania managed what Christian has achieved and that must be ranked along the same benchmark as Jonah Lomu formerly of the New Zealand All Blacks.

President of Oceania Temarii spoke highly of Ngalu Fusimalohi’s success and ability to break into the inner circle of Soccer a feat in itself. The mission of the technical ground is to assist the youths of Tonga in playing sports and using the facilities for their worth.

The new Soccer academy included technical offices, two pitches, changing rooms and offices facing east. The new wing looks after two new football pitches and one pitch in particular is clearly of international standard with specially grown grass sown specially for the soccer pitch.

The new soccer pitch looks like a green billiard table, specially sown grass, well manicured and the feel of the pitch is that the ball will travel well on the flat deck football pitch. The former New Caledonia, French and Real Madrid professional player Christian was on hand to demonstrate for us his skills and the beautifully manicured soccer pitch.
