Military Parade 1st August 2007, 9.30am |
|
On the 1st August at 9.30am, personnel from the Defence Services (Royal Guard, Navy and Marines) and Police gathered together at Pangai Lahi (Big Park) adjacent to the Royal Palace to perform a Military Parade in honour of King George Tupou V's 59th Birthday.
Members of the Police Force and Defence Services also formed a marching band that performed a range of songs, including the Tongan National Anthem, which the personnel marched in tune to around Pangai Lahi.
When he was Crown Prince Tupou To'a, King George Tupou V attended the Sandhurst Military Academy in the United Kingdom.
The Military Parade performed by members of the Police Force and Defence Services is a mark of respect to the reigning Monarch, and a gist to him as their leader.
