The torrential rain didn't dampen the spirits of the guests or His Majesty on this special occasion who, immediately after the Military Parade on Pangai Lahi, attended a Royal luncheon at the former British High Commissioners Residence, Consul House, known as Polata'ane (British).  Those attending the luncheon included:


Samoan Head of State, His Highness Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi with quests

  • Hon. Dr. Feleti Sevele, Prime Minister of Tonga;
  • HRH Princess Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu;    
  • HRH Princess Angelika Latufuipeka;
  • Lady Alaileua Ma'atu;
  • Hon. Tu'a Taumoepeau, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence;
  • Hon. Tuita, Minister of Lands, Survey and Natural Resources;
  • Representatives from Australian and New Zealand High Commissions, and
  • Representatives from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China.
 
Tupou V with Master of Royal Household, Hon Tu'ivanuavou Vaea 

A Royal toast was given to His Majesty by Hon. Tuita.  Hon. Albert Tu'ivanuavoa Vaea, Master of the Royal Household and Secretary, Tonga Traditions Committee toasted the Samoan Head of State, His Highness Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi.

This is the first time that His Majesty has celebrated his birthday on 1st August, after inheriting the throne from his father, King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, who passed away on 11th September 2006.  King George Tupou V's Royal Coronation is due to be held in August 2008.
