The Royal Family

The late Queen Salote was a beloved Monarch who led the Kingdom of Tonga until 1965.  His Majesty the King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV was the eldest son of Queen Salote and her consort, Tungi Mailefihi.
King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV married Halaevalu Mata’aho on the 10th of June 1947.  This marriage consolidates the links between the Tongan nobility.  Queen Halaievalu Mata’aho, a descendant of Ma’afu, is eldest daughter of the noble ‘Ahome’e (Manu-‘o-pangai) and his high ranking wife Heu’ifanga, a great great granddaughter of the last Tu’i Tonga.
King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV and Queen Mata'aho have four  children.  The eldest is the Crown Prince Tupouto'a, followed  by their only daughter Princess Pilolevu, their second son Ma'atu,  and third son Prince 'Ulukalala Lavaka Ata.
